Firefox 3 set a world record for the most software downloads in 24 hours and the official number was 8,002,530 downloads.
The Spread Firefox site says that there are more than 28 million downloads till now of the open source browser, and there are 160 million active users:

Firefox is simply amazing, with more than 15,000 improvements, Firefox 3 is faster, safer and smarter than before.
